Pete Cossie (Level 1FA coach) of Telford Stags Walking FC

September 26, 2015

Hi I’m Pete Cossie aged 57. If you’re like me and you used to play Saturday and Sunday league football many years ago and thought your playing days were long gone. Think again.

I help run Telford Stags Walking Football Club. We play on a Monday mornings 9.45 to 11am at the Bucks Head, Telford United football ground in Wellington.

We are a bunch of men and a few women over fifty who enjoy kicking a football. It’s the same rules as normal football but no running.(rules do vary from club to club) Easy you might think…Come along and try it and see.

You don’t have to be super fit. I was an eighteen stone overweight Director who had just had a stroke a year before. I have now given up smoking, drinking, and eat relatively healthily and have now lost over 2 and a half stone from regular exercise and healthier living and it all started with the football.

We have a great camaraderie in the group. None of us knew each before we started a year ago. I now have many great friends just from the football.

If you think you’re up for a laugh and want to get fitter then give me a call or just turn up on Mondays. There is a small charge of a few quid for the pitch hire.

My self and Roy Vincent are now level 1 FA coaches to help you get into it. For those of you that are very competitive, we might arrange a few friendly’s and enter a few competitions as there are now hundreds of walking football groups all over the country.

Hello, My name is Andy aka kitbo i’m 57, played sunday league football & 5 a side in my younger days during the 80’s & 90’s, i’ve been married to jan for 37 years, i am a full time carer for my wife who has a physical disabilty, managed to bring up 6 kids between ourselves, most of them intersested in football. I really enjoyed helping out with the training side whilst they where growing up, & even trained with 3 of my son’s while they where playing in the Telford Sunday league between 2005 & 2009, eventually i had to call it a day because it was really difficult trying to keep up with them. I missed those days & thought to myself then, this is it now andy looks like you’ll be hanging up your boots & for ever & will have to be content with watching rather than playing, but then a just over a year ago i was watching TV & an advert came on about Walking Football i thought wow this looks good, i wondered if they’ve got one in my area, so i checked on the internet & yes there was one being set up at the bucks head through Age Concerned, so i gave them a ring & before i knew it i was on my way down to the bucks head to play this wonderful game of walking football. I’ve made so many friends who, like me, share the same passion, the banter & the friendly rivalry between one another, i have now been playing for almost a year & i still get the same buzz & enthusiasm as i did when first started playing, so if your over 50 & looking for a great way of keeping fit , & you dont mind a bit of exercise or the occasional mickey taking lol, please come along & join in the fun with the Telford Stags Walking Football Club.
